BIOGRAPHY
Sherri Riddell Cohen is an artist who creates primarily in oil paints residing in the Pittsburgh
area.
She began studying art at the age of 9 then traded paintbrushes for sewing needles at 15,
deciding that fashion design, somehow, was a more practical artistic pursuit. That lead to
design school, modeling then an apprenticeship with a local designer. In the late 80’s she
ventured out on her own with fashion design and modeling meeting her husband through a
bridal client.
She and her husband Mark have one child, daughter Molly, currently residing in LA. Mark died
unexpectedly in 2012 leaving Sherri to decide the next path in her life.
She continued with fashion design for a few more years while squeezing in bucket list trips here
and there always taking pictures of places she had in her mind would be wonderful to paint.
The desire was calling. The winter of 2013/14 was spent at their home in the mountains of
Colorado while Sherri was trying to decide where to live. That winter was the beginning of the
painting journey. Upon returning to Pittsburgh, painting was put aside again while decisions
were being considered. Pittsburgh won. Travel became more of a priority. Then COVID changed
everything!
Priorities shifted for everyone and Sherri decided that the childhood dream of being a painter
was the one regret she was not going to have. As one friend put it “you better get to it then”.
She has been putting that sense of peace and joy from her captured moments on canvas since.
Sherri also enjoys the physical challenges of yard beautification, creating healthy, good food
and now, occasionally sewing up something special to wear because that is art we live in.
Sherri’s attitude is do everything with love and a dash of passion no matter what the task. And
always live in gratitude.
